Award Winning Documentary to Show
The Cannon Beach History Center & Museum is proud to welcome Michael Turner from GeerCrest Farm & Historical Society. Turner will be presenting his first full-length biography, The Life of Vesper Geer. This award winning biography tells the story of a woman’s enduring love for her small farm.
The biography is made up of archival materials from the GeerCrest Historical Society. The Historical Society was established in 2007 to preserve and protect the history of the Geer family for descendants and Oregonians alike. The film follows the life of Vesper Geer and her family. Vesper was a fourth generation owner of the Geer Farmstead.
The tale of the Geer family is one of some of the first Oregon pioneers. The Geer Farmstead was the second deed land claim made in Oregon. The Geer home was constructed in 1848 and is the oldest frame-built house in Oregon to remain in the same family. Turner passionately tells the story of Vesper who was born in her family home in 1917 and then died there in 2010. The film recently premiered at the 2012 Oregon Heritage Conference in Salem. It also won best documentary at the Teeny Tiny Film Festival in 2012.
Stan Hall of The Oregonian says this about the film, “For aficionados of Oregon history, Michael Turner’s documentary is pure manna.
