Outreach & Visitor Experience Coordinator (Part-Time)
Cannon Beach History Center & Museum
Location: Cannon Beach, OR
Part Time: 20–25 hours per week
Starting at $19/hour
About the Position
The Cannon Beach History Center & Museum is seeking a friendly, organized, and community-minded Outreach & Visitor Experience Coordinator to support daily museum operations, outreach, administrative tasks, fundraising support, and events. This highly public-facing role helps ensure a welcoming visitor experience while supporting members, donors, and community engagement.
This role plays an important part in helping share the history and stories of Cannon Beach by supporting exhibits, educational programs, and positive visitor engagement, ensuring that local history is accessible and meaningful to the community.
This position works closely with and reports directly to the Executive Director and is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, teamwork, community connection, and hands-on work in a small museum setting. This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys a varied role, values community connection, and is excited to support a small, mission-driven organization.
Key Responsibilities
Visitor Experience & Daily Museum Operations
- Welcome and assist museum visitors in a friendly and inclusive manner
- Support day-to-day museum operations and ensure the museum is visitor-ready
- Answer general phone calls and emails
- Assist with the museum gift shop, including sales, restocking, and displays
- Help facilitate visitor donations and share information about ways to support the museum
- Open and close the museum during scheduled hours
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming museum environment
- Support volunteers during museum hours and events and may lead with volunteer onboarding over time with guidance and training from the Executive Director.
Outreach & Community Engagement
- Assist with outreach to community partners, businesses, and organizations
- Represent the museum at community events when available
- Distribute flyers, postcards, and promotional materials around town
- Help promote museum programs, events, and initiatives
- Support relationship-building with members, donors, and community supporters
Administrative & Membership Support
- Assist with annual membership appeals and other bulk mailings
- Help prepare and send membership renewal and thank-you letters
- Support ongoing member communications and relationship-building
- Assist with organizing mailing lists, contacts, and outreach materials
- Provide additional administrative support as needed to support daily museum operations
Fundraising & Event Support (Non-Grant)
- Assist with fundraising campaigns and donor communications
- Support museum events outside of regular hours when available
- Assist with the Cannon Beach Cottage Tour, the museum’s largest annual fundraiser
- Provide event preparation, day-of support, and follow-up assistance
Exhibits & Programs Support
- Assist with rotating exhibits:
- One long-term exhibit in the main hall
- One quarterly rotating exhibit in the event/classroom space
- Help with exhibit preparation, installation support, and basic upkeep
Communications & Promotion
- Assist with social media posting and basic content scheduling
- Help share museum updates, events, and programs with the community
- Provide feedback and ideas for outreach and promotional messaging
Executive Director Support
- Provide direct support to the Executive Director on outreach, events, and day-to-day operational needs
Scope of the Position
To ensure clarity and support a positive working environment, this role focuses on outreach, visitor experience, and operational support and does not include:
- Grant writing or grant reporting
- Budget management or financial oversight
- Strategic planning or board communication
- Primary graphic design responsibilities
Qualifications
- Friendly, professional, and welcoming demeanor
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a small-team environment
- Willingness to help where needed — a true team-oriented, can-do attitude is essential
- Comfortable with basic computer skills, including email, document creation, and using common online tools (training provided)
- Interest in history or museums preferred (knowledge of Cannon Beach history not required — training will be provided)
Physical Requirements
- This position may involve standing for extended periods, light lifting, assisting with exhibit setup, and occasional movement of materials or supplies.
Training & Introductory Period
This position includes a 90-day introductory period designed to ensure a positive and successful mutual fit. During this time, onboarding support, training, goal setting, and regular feedback will be provided. A performance review will take place at the end of the 90-day period, with the opportunity for a wage increase based on fit and performance.
Schedule, Compensation & Benefits
- 20–25 hours per week
- Regular schedule: Wednesday–Saturday, approximately 10:00 or 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Additional hours may be available for events if the employee is available
- Starting wage: $19/hour
- Paid holidays

- Paid vacation accrued after one year of employment
