Enjoy tasty treats from Cannon Beach Bakery and Cannon Beach Chocolate Cafe, and savor teas from North Fork 53 Communitea while enjoying a presentation from Oregon historian Doug Kenck-Crispin on a talk of Beaver Tails, Treasure Tales and Garden Tea.. Before Oregon was ever a state, we minted our own gold currency embossed with a beaver. Beaver Money is quite valued by collectors today, and could comprise the contents of concealed caches that Doug will discuss. He’ll reveal the fascinating history of this unique Oregon currency, give you a run down on some famous Oregon treasure legends, and dig deep into two specific treasure stories; one located in Portland and another on the Oregon Coast. As part of the presentation, Doug will distribute paper copies of two actual treasure maps from Oregon archival collections. He will discus the history of these treasure hordes, the documentary trail, and the very recent discoveries of present-era researchers. This is the ONLY history presentation you’ll attend this year that could make you rich! Maybe….
Doug Kenck Crispin is a Portland-based public historian and historical consultant. You will find his history musings in The Oregonian, Portland Monthly, Willamette Week, Street Roots, and other publications.
